Lidl Cyprus Reaches Major Palm Oil Sustainability Milestone with WWF Partnership
9/14/2026
Lidl Cyprus has reached a significant milestone in sustainable sourcing, with 97% of the palm oil used in its private-label products now certified by globally recognised standards such as RSPO (Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil) or EU Organic. This achievement reflects the retailer's ongoing commitment to responsible sourcing practices and marks a key step in its collaboration with WWF Greece.
The partnership between Lidl and WWF, which began in 2024, extends far beyond setting targets. Together, the organisations carry out joint supply chain risk assessments, establish mandatory sustainability criteria for suppliers, and implement monitoring systems to minimise environmental harm. Their shared focus centres on tackling the environmental and social challenges tied to palm oil production worldwide.
Central to the collaboration is the push for deforestation-free and conversion-free supply chains. Through rigorous certification processes, Lidl supports farming methods that protect vital ecosystems, improve productivity on existing farmland, uphold human rights, and maintain full traceability from source to shelf. As Vasiliki Adamidou, Head of Corporate Affairs & Sustainability at Lidl Cyprus, explains: "Working alongside WWF has helped us refine our sourcing standards. We aim to provide our customers with products they can trust — both in quality and in how they are made."
By expanding the availability of certified palm oil, Lidl is making it simpler for shoppers to support sustainable agriculture with every purchase. Each certified product contributes directly to environmental conservation and the improvement of labour conditions in producing regions. However, the companies acknowledge that lasting change requires wider industry participation. They urge other players in the sector to set and meet their own ambitious sustainability goals.
